TIOMAN ISLAND, MALAYSIA (AKA Paradise)
Tioman Island is a lesser known island off the East Coast of Malaysia which I discovered this year and am already dying to go back! I can easily say it is one of my favourite islands I’ve ever been to (and I’ve been to some beautiful islands; stay tuned for Maldives post…)
Do be aware that it is very untouched so if you are someone you needs a town and lots of shops, restaurants etc. then this probably isn’t the place for you. However, the reason I fell in love with it so much is because of its natural, unspoiled beauty! I’m talking stunning beaches, snorkeling, jungle, waterfalls and amazing wildlife like monkeys, squirrels and giant (but gentle) lizards.
I stayed at an eco-friendly, beachfront resort called Melina Beach Resort (website details at the bottom) and I 100% recommend this place to everyone. You have to get a ferry to Tioman Island and from the main ferry port, the resort organizes the pick up by boat, and I was whisked away to another part of the Island I like to call paradise! The beauty, services and activities of this resort could not be improved on!
Wherever you stay, there are also many day trips around the islands or nearby islands that you can do; to the most beautiful snorkeling locations, waterfalls or hikes through the jungle. The best part about Tioman Island is that it’s not too touristy so there is always plenty of space and lots of amazing photo opportunities!
And if you’re like me and love just lazy days on the beach then this place is perfect for you. The resort has its own secluded beach with a coral reef right outside and they provide free snorkeling gear. Surrounded by beach, rainforest gardens AND with its own amazing restaurant you’ll find yourself in heaven on Tioman Island!
