Sustainability mission

Over the last 1-2 years we have gradually been working towards making Aruba Swimwear a more eco-friendly brand. We want to support the environment by using more sustainably materials / packaging, eliminating plastic and much more.

1 year ago we switched to using Repreve® fabric - 100% regenerated Nylon made from ocean waste. This is existing or at risk waste, such as single use plastics and old fishing supplies that case harm to marine life.

Repreve® is a trusted, branded performance recycled fiber, used to make sustainable textiles with wicking, odor control and water resistance. Not only does Repreve find new life for recycled materials, Repreve offsets using new petroleum, emitting fewer greenhouse gases and conserving water and energy in the process. This fabric is still of the highest quality. It is soft, strong, comfortable and made to withstand exposure to the sun and chlorine as well as our previous swim fabrics.

As of 2 years ago, our swimwear pieces currently come in reusable zip lock bags, which can be used to store many items, or swimwear when wet. However, as these bags are still plastic, we have decided to make the move to organic cotton drawstring bags. These are also reusable for many things and come packed straight from the warehouse, meaning no plastic at all is used from production to our office or to you. These will be available very soon (predicted this November), as we bring out our new collection.

We also now have new compostable mailing satchels which your orders will be sent in. These are 100% compostable which is much better for the environment. Made from a combination of corn-based biopolymers, this mailer composts within 3 or 6 months and is certified for both home and commercial compost. There will be no use of sticky tape, stickers etc and no non-recyclable leaflets in your package.

We use the compostable mailers by Noissue, and this certified company also plants trees for each order, which means you are also contributing to global reforestation.

As of 2019, all deliveries (both domestic and international), are 100% carbon neutral.

Carbon neutral means first reducing emissions from operations where possible, and then compensating for the remaining emissions by investing in carbon offset programs. We do this through Sendle and Australia Post.

From when we first launched Aruba Swim in 2016, it has always been most important to us, to only use fair trade manufacturing. Our products are produced in both Australia and Bali, and both are completely ethical with fair pay and good working conditions for staff. If we ever use a new manufacturer, this is always physically checked, so you can feel great knowing your swimwear is completely sweatshop free.

We are not a fast fashion brand. Our swimwear products are made to last you a long time and we have fewer collections than most fashion companies. Our Australian manufacturing is done in-house and our Bali manufacturer is a smaller, boutique scale company. This aligns with their ethical, fair-trade nature and we like to support these local workers.

We are very excited to announce that we will be donating a portion of profits to an environmental organisation, so you will know that each order you purchase from us is also giving back to the planet.

Chosen organisation is Take 3 - Take 3 for the Sea.

Take 3 is doing amazing things for our planet. They have great education programs for the community, schools and surf life saving clubs, to teach people about plastic pollution and waste. They host worldwide beach clean ups and anyone can make a difference by picking up 3 pieces of rubbish every time you go to the beach.

5% of our profits will be donated to this organisation and we plan to be involved in their movement and educating people about protecting our oceans. As a swimwear brand we all love the beach and the sea, so Take 3 really aligns with our passions. The ocean is such a big part of our planet, it provides the oxygen we breathe and is essential to the health of our planet, so lets look after it.

We will continue to work on our brand and the environmental impact we are making. This is an ongoing process and the year of 2020 has given us an opportunity to make huge changes, which I hope you are passionate about. We are always learning and appreciate any feedback and suggestions to make Aruba Swimwear a friend to our planet.
